CHARITON, Iowa - As fawning season nears its peak, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources urges residents to look out for deer, both on the roadways and in their backyards.
DNR Forest Wildlife Research Biologist Jim Coffey told KXCV/KRNW that the peak of fawning season stretches through mid-June.
Coffey adds that does often leave fawns unattended in grassy areas and urges Iowans, if they find fawns that seem to be "abandoned", to leave them alone.
